StageRental.com provided the Stageline SL100 20×24 mobile stage for the 2017 Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise from 1/22/17 to 1/29/17. The cruise took place on the Holland America Ms. Koningsdam cruise ship. The ports of call were the Dominican Republic, St. John, and St. Maarten.
The mobile stage was craned to the aft pool deck of the cruise ship with a 28,000 lb max lift crane. The SL100 weighs approximately 10,000 lbs. We arrived at 6am for customs and at about 11am the stage was hooked up to the crane.
We mounted a GoPro camera on the bottom of the stage to give the perspective of the lift. Below is a video of the entire stage lift and also the removal.
The wind was fierce at about 40mph for the installation and it rained during the removal.
The first two days of the cruise we had high winds. Six ballast straps, span set, and shackles were used to tie down the roof to the beams of the ship. This provided stability in high winds and sway from the ship rocking at sea. On land straps are not needed on the Stageline SL100 due to it’s high 80mph wind resistance.
Production
Audio and LED par can lights were flown to the roof for the entire event. Two 8×4 stage decks were used to stack the subwoofers and line array. The mobile stage roof was used to keep the line array balanced during sway of the ship.
Bands
Multiple blues bands performed each day on the stage until the early hours of the morning, sometimes until sunrise. The cruise was seven days long and had extremely talented and popular blues bands from around the world including Taj Mahal, Walter Trout, Otis Taylor, California Honeydrops, Marquise Knox, Kid Andersen, Terrance Simien, Tab Benoit, and the Lowrider Band (just to name a few).
